Bone Grafting

Our skilled team of dental professionals is well-versed in bone grafting procedures and will guide you through the process with care and expertise.

What Is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting plays a vital role in ensuring the success of dental implants, which have become increasingly popular as a reliable solution for missing teeth. However, the quality and quantity of the jawbone can significantly impact the feasibility of implant placement. In cases where the jawbone is too thin or soft to support an implant, bone grafting becomes essential.

How is bone grafting done?

Bone grafting procedures involve several key steps to augment and strengthen the jawbone. While the specific details may vary depending on the individual case, here is a general overview of the bone grafting process:

Consultation and Planning

The process begins with a consultation where our dental team evaluates your oral health, assesses the extent of bone loss, and discusses the bone grafting procedure as a solution. They will create a customised treatment plan based on your specific needs.

Graft Material Selection

The next step involves selecting the appropriate bone graft material. This can include autografts (your own bone), allografts (donor bone), xenografts (animal bone), or synthetic graft materials. The choice depends on factors such as availability, compatibility, and your dentist’s recommendation.

Graft Placement

On the day of the procedure, you will receive anaesthesia or sedation to ensure your comfort. Your dentist will make an incision in the treatment area to access the bone. The selected graft material is then carefully placed in the targeted area. The graft may be secured with screws, pins, or membranes to stabilise it and promote proper healing.

Healing and Integration

After the bone graft is placed, your body begins the healing process. The graft serves as a scaffold, encouraging the growth of new bone cells. Over time, the existing bone and the graft material integrate, creating a stronger and more supportive foundation.

Follow-up Visits

You will have regular follow-up appointments with your dentist to monitor the healing progress. They will assess the integration of the graft, ensure proper oral hygiene, and provide any necessary post-operative care instructions.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the bone grafting process take?

The duration of the bone grafting process can vary depending on factors like the type of graft material used and your body’s healing response.

In general, the healing and integration period can take several months.

Are there any risks or complications associated with bone grafting?

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications with bone grafting. These are relatively rare and can be minimised with proper pre-operative planning and post-operative care.

Will I need to undergo additional procedures after bone grafting?

In some cases, additional procedures may be necessary, such as dental implant placement or other dental restorations. Your dentist will discuss the entire treatment plan with you, outlining any further steps required.

Will I be able to eat normally after bone grafting?

While you may need to follow some dietary restrictions immediately after the procedure, most patients can resume a regular diet once the initial healing period is complete.

How can I ensure the success of my bone grafting procedure?

Following your dentist’s post-operative instructions, attending regular follow-up visits, and maintaining excellent oral hygiene are essential for the success of your bone grafting procedure.

How Much Does Bone Grafting Cost?

The cost of bone grafting can vary depending on several factors, including the extent of bone loss, the type of graft material used, the complexity of the case, and the geographical location of the dental practice.

To determine the specific cost for your bone grafting procedure, it is best to schedule a consultation with Mindarie Quinns Dental Centre. During this visit, our dentists will assess your oral health, evaluate the extent of bone loss, and discuss the bone grafting procedure in detail. We will then provide you with a personalised treatment plan and a breakdown of the anticipated costs involved.

What our clients say

Google Review

Have been a client here for over 10 years and highly recommend this practice. Dr Lubinka has been my dentist for 12 years since I moved from the UK. Her professionalism, knowledge, attention to detail and her communication is outstanding. The administrative, support and dental nurse staff here are equally exceptional. Customer focused, positive, flexible and polite. Have never ever considered going anywhere else. Highly recommended.

Thank you to all the staff for being so caring and accommodating for my husband's first visit. Dr Lubinka has set him on a path toward dental health recovery. This practice has even inspired me to visit for a checkup and that’s somewhat miraculous!

Excellent customer service, with friendly and experienced staff! This is so helpful when you have a child who has always been anxious going to the dentist. Dr Master is so professional and composed that I don't even need to go in with my child when she has an appointment. He makes sure that you are completely satisfied with the service you receive and that's at no additional cost to you!

What can you say? Who loves going to the dentist? My experience has been awesome. No pain, no fuss, friendly and professional. Do I want to go again? No. I want to take better care of my teeth. Yet, if I have to go, I definitely will be back here.

I cannot praise Mindarie Quinn’s dental staff highly enough. My son had an accident at school resulting in a chipped tooth, the desk staff were amazing, shifting around appointments to fit him in for emergency treatment. Dr Aron was brilliant. He was calm & gentle with a traumatised boy. Within the hour we were back home with a fixed up-front tooth. This is my usual dentist, and my experiences are always great, but the care we received today in an emergency was so professional and reassuring, I felt the need to leave a review of our experience. Thank you for the incredible treatment we received with you today.

Myself and my children have been seeing Lubinka for years. She is kind, patient, friendly and explains everything very well. My daughter had to have 4 teeth extracted and the procedure went very well because of her trust in Lubinka. The other staff are also lovely. We highly recommend this practice.
